Northeast community partners to protest expansion of downtown strip club

From officials at the Community Action Network:

There is no CAN meeting Wednesday, May 21.

Instead, residents and business owners are requested to come to 6612 Independence Avenue by 12:30 p.m. We will travel to City Hall to protest the expansion of Temptations — a downtown strip club.

In the U.S., the commercial sex industry generates billions of dollars each year by exploiting women and young girls. A recent survey indicates that nearly every woman who works in a strip club is repeatedly exposed to verbal and sexual abuse by customers, employees and managers in these clubs on a routine basis.

The expansion and abuse that will accompany it is something that we cannot tolerate in our community. Please use this opportunity to show the sex industry that we value the safety, health, and wellbeing of women and young girls. The Council is scheduled to vote on the matter at 1:30.
